Less than two weeks to go until the launch of the Steam Deck, but thanks to a recent video by iFixit, it is now possible to see all the internal components that make it up. In fact, it was also confirmed that iFixit will be responsible for selling replacement parts for this portable device, as well as for the Valve Index VR headset.
Unfortunately, Valve isn’t saying exactly which parts will be available yet, and according to Lawrence Yangdesigner of this device, are still discussing the details with iFixit.
In the video, iFixit highlights that many of the elements of the Steam Deck they are easy to repair, with simple screws holding each of its parts. The screen does have a bit of adhesive that you’ll need to remove, and the battery doesn’t seem like such an easy thing to remove either. But generally speaking, users shouldn’t have as much trouble repairing some of the most important components of the Steam Deck.
Publisher’s note: Unlike other laptops, it seems like the Steam Deck doesn’t really have that much hassle with replacing parts. Valve is aware that we are dealing with a device that, in the wrong hands, could suffer quite a bit throughout its life cycle. I wish more companies would do this too.
