SUVs and electric, electric and SUVs: the two trends that are increasingly gaining the upper hand in the global automotive landscape are constantly echoing, often making us forget about the existence of other market segments that continue to consolidate their presence. This is the case with small cars, which also in 2021 which is about to end have proved to live up to expectations. Several models in this segment that made their absolute or commercial debut in this calendar year, we wanted to collect the five most representative. Starting from Skoda Fabia, which only a few months ago made its debut in its new generation.
Made on the basis of the MQB A0 platform of the Volkswagen group, the same used for the Polo, the new generation of the Bohemian subcompact is proposed in Italy starting from 16,900 euros. Compared to the previous generation of the model, the novelties can be seen right from the size of the car: thanks to a wheelbase longer than 94 millimeters, the new Skoda Fabia boasts identical measurements to those of the new Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza, and therefore greater than those of the previous Fabia. Two set-ups customers can choose from: at the base of the range is the Ambition, which includes 6 airbags, the Lane Assistant for lane maintenance, the Front Assistant with automatic braking and pedestrian recognition, the front lights in LED technology, the cruise control, air conditioning, rear parking sensors, Apple Car Play and Android Auto protocols and the Bolero radio with 8 ″ display, DAB + reception and two USB-C sockets; the Style version, on the other hand, adds dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless starting, automatically dimming rear-view mirror, 16 “wheels, the popular bi-color bodywork with roof, front pillar and rear spoiler in the same color contrast, interior LED lighting and fog lights.
The renewed aesthetic specifications have concerned the exterior appearance of the car, but also and above all the passenger compartment: within the new generation of Skoda Fabia stands out a display for the larger infotainment system, which reaches 6.8 “as standard or 9.2” as an option, adorned on both sides by physical buttons to which the Bohemian carmaker did not want to give up. Next to this screen appears a 10.2 ″ digital instrument panel, which helps the subcompact look a little more modern on the inside. Completely renovated is instead the engine range: the offer in Italy includes four Euro 6d approved petrol solutions, with powers ranging from 65 HP to 110 HP, with the added value of the two 1.0 MPI 65 HP and 80 HP engines that can also be driven by newly licensed drivers.
