“We simply can’t do it.”
Diplomatic the Olympic boycott will not affect the participation of U.S. athletes in the Beijing Games in February.

Spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zhao Lijian has called for an end to the boycott “so as not to affect dialogue and cooperation between China and the United States”.
Reuters reports the Russian president Vladimir Putin to be the only major country leader to accept China’s invitation to participate in the Olympics.
