Concentrations in at least thirty municipalities in the Valencian Country, including those directly affected by DANA, demand this Friday, when one month has passed since the flood which has left more than 200 dead and numerous material damages, the resignation of Carlos Mazón, the president of the Generalitat, for his “disastrous management” during the catastrophe.
During the rallies, which began at 7:30 p.m., a minute of silence was observed to remember the victims and denounce “institutional negligence.” Before, at 8:11 p.m., the alarm on the concentrates’ cell phones rang. It is the same time that the civil protection ES-Alert was received on October 29, warning the population to avoid any type of movement in the province of Valencia.
One of the concentrations called by the fifty social movements that already managed to gather 130,000 people in Valencia in the demonstration on November 9 is the Plaza de la Virgen in the Valencian capital, where hundreds of people have shouted phrases such as “Mazón resigns” and “the president to Picassent.”
The protesters carried signs that showed the name of the population and the number of deaths in each of them, like Paiporta, 45; Swedish, 1; and Riba-roja, 7, among others.
They were also celebrated concentrations in fifteen regions of the three provinces of the Valencian Country to which groups from at least thirty municipalities have joined, including those most devastated by the flood.
This Friday’s concentrations are the prelude to a new demonstration called for this Saturday and which will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Valencia City Hall square with the motto “Mazón, resignation.”
