Mexico City.– A few days ago, Janet Jackson was the target of mockery on social media for making erroneous comments about Kamala Harris, the candidate for president of the United States.
The next day, Mo Elmasri, the singer’s purported manager, issued a public apology to Harris on Buzzfeed, claiming that “misinformation” and manipulation had led Jackson to question the candidate’s ethnicity.
Now, after Jackson’s family assured People magazine that Elmasri had no affiliation with the singer and was not her manager, it has emerged that the supposed manager has been fired. Elmasri himself revealed this in a statement to the Daily Beast on Monday, in which he claims that he was fired by the sister of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
“Janet Jackson fired me due to disagreements between her, Randy Jackson (who has been Janet’s manager for years) and myself, following her meeting with The Guardian and her unbalanced statements,” Mo Elmasri said via email.
“That’s all I can say. I won’t be able to take phone calls because of the huge number of requests I’ve received. All support to Kamala Harris.” Jackson caused a stir after The Guardian interviewed her and asked her opinion on Kamala Harris, to which the singer replied that she didn’t know much about the subject. “She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian. Her father is white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news for a few days. They told me that they found out that her father was white,” said the interpreter of “Nasty” and “Together Again” at the time. In order to dispel the controversy, Elmasri, who serves as executive producer on the documentary Janet Jackson: Family First, which follows the singer throughout her 2023 “Together Again” tour, released a public apology supposedly on behalf of Janet. “Janet Jackson would like to clarify her recent comments. She acknowledges that her statements about Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity were based on misinformation,” she said in a statement. “Janet respects Harris’ dual heritage as a Black and Indian woman and apologizes for any confusion caused. She values the diversity Harris represents and understands the importance of celebrating it in today’s society. Janet remains committed to promoting unity and understanding.”
