John Garvin He didn’t take Bend Studio’s homage to Astro Bot well: According to the game director of Days Gone, the team devalued the figure of Deacon, reducing him to mere promotional material and betraying the history of this franchise.
“It’s really sad to see Deacon reduced to promoting other games“, Garvin wrote in a post on Twitter. “Well done, Bend Studio! What a great way to protect your history!” he then added jokingly.
When someone then suggested that he tone down his comments towards the studio, which is not to blame in this situation, Garvin replied: “I mean, I have to see my character. reduced to a cartoon to promote a little game and I’m the bad one?”
The popularity of Days Gone is unquestionable and it is a fact
As we know, Days Gone 2 was rejected by Sony and Garvin was immediately very critical of this decision, in his opinion linked more to the votes on Metacritic than to the sales of the game, therefore his current feelings are certainly understandable.
Of course, in reality the game director should be happy about the homage to Astro Bot, rather than irritated: beyond the fact that Team Asobi’s title turned out to be much more than “a little game”, that artwork proves that Deacon and the Days Gone saga are still popular and represent Bend Studio’s work to date.
