This Wednesday, the 19th, the Senate approved nominations to the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), the Superior Labor Court (TST) and the National Council of Justice (CNJ).
The senators approved, by 59 votes to three, the appointment of André Luís Macagnan Freire as Cade’s chief prosecutor. The Macagnan hearing was held in May. Lula’s nominee to Cade is a career civil servant at the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) and had experience at the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), where he was superintendent of Road Infrastructure, and at the Attorney General’s Office of the National Treasury (PGFN) , where he was prosecutor.
The Senate also approved the reappointment of Alexandre Barreto de Souza to the position of general superintendent of Cade. His nomination is attributed, in Congress, to the president of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), Bruno Dantas. Barreto was president of Cade from 2017 to 2021 and has worked in the National Treasury, Federal Revenue, Federal Senate and TCU.
Another approved by the Senate was Antônio Fabrício, nominated to be minister of the Superior Labor Court. There were 62 votes in favor and only two against. Held this Wednesday by the Constitution and Justice Commission, Fabrício defended the regulation of the employment relationship between app drivers and digital platforms (such as iFood and Uber). He said that this discussion seeks to “create a civilizational level”.
“We know that platforms came and are (a source of) income generation. What is discussed a lot is the limitation. Parliament is focusing on Complementary Bill 12/2024 (which regulates the segment). Parliament has tried to create a civilizational level,” he stated.
By 62 votes to one, the appointment of Mauro Campbell Marques, minister of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), was approved for the position of national inspector of Justice, of the National Council of Justice (CNJ). Also questioned by the CCJ this Wednesday, Campbell Marques defended that judges only act in the districts in which they are assigned.
“It is unacceptable that they seek to become metaverse judges, virtual judges, abandoning their communities, handing them over to a computer, a cell phone, a relationship absolutely distant from what reality is. In some inland districts, there will be difficulties in maintaining the judge with his family. But this does not mean that he has a letter of freedom to work as a judiciary as a side job or possibly do tourism in his region,” he said.
