Local media reported that the target of the Israeli raid was Hezbollah leader Ali Soufan.
This came after Hezbollah announced, on Monday, the downing of an Israeli drone over Lebanese territory.
He said in a statement that his members “ambushed a Hermes 900 drone armed with missiles” in Lebanese airspace, and when it “arrived at the fire zone,” they targeted it, “hit it, and it was shot down,” according to Agence France-Presse.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it had bombed a Hezbollah military compound in Baalbek belonging to Unit 4400, which it said was responsible for smuggling weapons to and from Lebanon.
He added in a statement on Telegram that he launched raids on targets in Aitaroun in southern Lebanon, including a military site and two Hezbollah military buildings.
He said that the strikes came in response to the downing of an Israeli army drone that was flying in the skies of Lebanon, yesterday, Monday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported, on Monday, that Israeli air strikes targeted a convoy of trucks near the Qusayr area on the border between Syria and Lebanon, whose Syrian and Lebanese sides are controlled by Hezbollah.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah is taking place in parallel with the Gaza war, but it has escalated in the past few days, raising fears of a broader confrontation between the two sides.
Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, says its attacks aim to support Palestinians who are under Israeli bombing in Gaza.
The fighting, which is the fiercest between Hezbollah and Israel since they went to war in 2006, has forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes on both sides of the border.
