Dubai Health – Angelman Syndrome Foundation opened the first specialized clinic in the Arabian Gulf region aiming to improve the level of care provided to those suffering from the hereditary neurological disorder called “Angelman Syndrome” within Al Jalila Children’s Hospital.
The partnership between the two parties aims to raise levels of awareness and treatment through education, exploration and research, which contributes to significantly improving the conditions of patients and their families.
The new clinic will provide a community support center that allows patients, their families, and caregivers the ability to communicate with experts and learn about the best reliable evidence-based care services, which will contribute to supporting and assisting people with this condition.
The clinic allows families in the UAE to communicate with specialized experts and obtain scientific and reliable medical care, in addition to enhancing treatment prospects through the capabilities of the integrated academic health system of “Dubai Health”.
Cooperation with the Angelman Syndrome Foundation opens new horizons in treating patients in line with Dubai Health’s “Patients First” pledge, as about one person out of every 500,000 people worldwide suffers from “Angelman Syndrome.”
The early symptoms of this syndrome include a delay in some stages of development, such as walking during the first year of birth, a delay in speech and movement, an imbalance, and others.
Dr. Abdullah Al Khayat, Executive Director of Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, expressed his happiness in cooperating with the Angelman Syndrome Foundation to open a specialized clinic at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital within the framework of the patient care network affiliated with Dubai Health.
He added that this cooperation represents a glimmer of hope for people with Angelman Syndrome and their families, helping them continue their lives by establishing the highest standards of care, driven by our “Patients First” pledge to achieve this.
In turn, Amanda Moore, Executive Director of the Angelman Syndrome Foundation, explained that the new clinic allows families in the UAE to communicate with Angelman Syndrome specialists with expertise and competencies that are difficult to find in normal circumstances.
She stressed the importance of enhancing awareness of rare diseases such as Angelman Syndrome, which enables early diagnosis and improving the condition of patients, and expressed her aspiration to work closely with the Dubai Health team to make a tangible positive impact on the lives of patients and their families.
