Family Committee of the Chamber of Deputies says that the show on Copacabana beach was a “vilification of the population’s faith”
The Chamber’s Family Committee approved on Wednesday (May 22, 2024) a motion to repudiate singers Madonna, Anitta and Pabllo Vittar. The reason was due to the North American artist’s show on May 4, in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian singers participated in the show.
The request was made by deputies Chris Tonietto (PL-RJ), Allan Garcês (PP-MA), Cristiane Lopes (Brazil-RO Union), Clarissa Tércio (PP-PE) and Julia Zanatta (PL-SC). The Family Committee is made up mainly of deputies from the conservative wing.
In the request, the congressmen allege that the show was a “vilification of the faith of the majority of the Brazilian population” and had “strong erotic bias”.
Deputies also say that financing the event with public resources “represents a shameful episode of disregard for values and needs” of Brazilian inhabitants. According to the secretary of Public Security, Victor dos Santos, Madonna’s show brought a return of R$300 million to Rio.
