Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow does not intend to initiate the restoration of contacts with Japan
Russia does not intend to initiate the restoration of diplomatic contacts with Japan without reciprocal steps from Tokyo. This was announced by the director of the third Asian department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lyudmila Vorobyova, as quoted by RIA News.
“Under such conditions, we do not intend to initiate the restoration of political contacts: breaking them is the choice of the Japanese side, and it is up to them to think about the future of relations,” she said.
Vorobyova also stated that Russia will take countermeasures to strengthen national defense capabilities in the event of the abolition of Article 9 of the Constitution in Japan, which implies the renunciation of war as a sovereign right of the nation or the use of armed forces as a means of resolving international disputes.
