As reported this Friday by the police, The victims arrived in Spain with the promise of obtaining an internship contract in the hospitality sector. for which they would receive a salary of 500 euros for 4 hours of work, but in many cases they did not receive more than 20 euros for 15 hours of work a day.
The 12 arrested in the towns of Torredembarra, Reus and Tarragona (northeast Spain) are accused of the crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, human trafficking with fines for labor exploitation, of favoring immigration, illegal detention and document falsification.

The investigation began last October, when agents received information about the existence of people of Colombian origin who worked in terrible working conditions, without contract or documentation of legal stay and with abusive hours.
The organization controlled the homes where the victims were staying with surveillance cameras, which They lived in crowded rooms.
The victims were traveling from Colombia after being recruited by the organization, after being offered a salary and an internship contract that, already in Spain, did not comply with what was agreed.

However, the days were between 12 and 3 p.m. and from Monday to Sunday, Weekly breaks were granted on rare occasions and they did not enjoy vacations.
More than 180 agents from the National Police and the Civil Guard participate in the joint police operation carried out this month.
Of the 12 people arrested, the investigating court leading the case ordered the imprisonment of three of them and the closure of the four restaurants in which the immigrants were exploited.
