If the next parliamentary plenary session gives the green light, there will be a commission of investigation in the Regional Assembly on the tragedy of the Atalayas nightclubs, after the fire that cost the lives of thirteen people. This Monday, the Regional Assembly Board unanimously accepted for processing, with the vote in favor of the three members of the PP and the two of the PSOE that comprise it, the request of the Mixed Group, formed by Podemos-IU-AV deputies.
The proposal was accepted after three weeks of “tug of war,” according to sources from the purple party in a statement. It is worth remembering that on October 9, the three members of the PP in the Table were rejected, relying on the legal services of the Chamber to point out that the initiative did not comply with the Regulations, given that the powers in the management of nightlife venues They corresponded to the City Council of Murcia and not to the Community, so it was not appropriate to discuss this matter in the Assembly, as they argued.
Plenary Pending
Podemos considers that that movement was “a maneuver by the majority of the Popular Party in the Assembly Table to buy time.” The spokesperson for Podemos-IU-AV in the Assembly, María Marín, positively valued this first step, “although without abandoning caution,” since a favorable vote from the Plenary Session of the Chamber is still necessary. “Today we are closer to knowing the truth about the tragic Atalayas fire,” said Marín. “Now all that remains is for the majority of groups to give the green light to this proposal at the next plenary session in November.”
The Podemos spokesperson considered that both PP and Vox and the Socialist Party “have no excuses to vote against, because only the Assembly can launch an independent investigative commission.” Marín explained that what his formation proposes “has nothing to do with what the Murcia City Council is proposing, which is a study commission, not an investigation commission because they have no jurisdiction to do so.”
The spokesperson stressed that the majority of members of this municipal commission will be councilors from the PSOE and the PP who have had government responsibilities. “They do not seem to us to be the most appropriate people to study or investigate themselves.”
