Ukraine, Russian drone over Romanian territory, “violation of the sovereignty of a NATO country”
The fall of the fragments of Russian drone over the territory of Romania “is a completely unacceptable situation, which constitutes a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a NATO allied state”. This was stated by the Romanian president Klaus Iohannis, after Bucharest’s Defense Ministry admitted that pieces of a Moscow drone were found on the country’s soil. Yesterday the president had initially declared that “neither a drone nor any piece of this device has arrived on the territory of Romania”, denying the news from Kiev in this regard.
Ukraine, Blinken in Kiev, massacre at the Donetsk market
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken unexpectedly arrived in Kiev to reaffirm Washington’s “unwavering support” and announce new aid for over a billion dollars while the country continues its offensive against Moscow’s troops and a new winter of war hovers on the horizon. This is the fourth visit by the chief of US diplomacy since the Russian invasion began in February 2022 and comes after Kiev announced a string of successes on the ground, gaining ground near the villages of Robotyne and Novoprokopivka, as it carries out the offensive towards Bakhmut in the east and Melitopol in the south.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Parliament approved the appointment of Rustam Umerov as defense minister with 338 votes in favor and none againstin the place of Oleksy Reznikov, sunk by allegations of corruption related to Defense Ministry contracts. The 41-year-old Umerov, an expert negotiator and a leading exponent of the Crimean Tatar community, has promised that he will do “everything possible and impossible for Ukraine’s victory”, ensuring that Kiev’s forces will recover “every inch” of the country invaded by the Russians. “We will return a normal and dignified life to Ukrainian cities, which unfortunately are temporarily occupied. We know that people are waiting for us there”, he added.
