Phil Spencer wanted the series of Gears of War is more horrorafter the acquisition of the franchise by Microsoft: one of the creators of the brand revealed it, Cliff Bleszinskiguest during the latest episode of the XboxEra podcast.
After declaring a few months ago that the new Gears of War games don’t have the heart of the originals, Bleszinski highlighted an interesting background, speaking precisely of what the Xbox boss’s vision was at the time of the handover.
Reintroducing horror elements into Gears of War “was Phil Spencer’s intention when Microsoft bought the intellectual property,” said Cliffy B. “Speaking with Rod Fergusson, Spencer said go back to horror.”
However, a road that The Coalition does not seem to have followed, judging by the work done with Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, and at this point it is impossible to know why. Maybe the concepts for the two episodes had already been established?
Who knows, maybe we will find this darker and more disturbing approach in Gears 6, on which The Coalition is working at full capacity according to Jeff Grubb, after canceling two minor projects.
