The residents of the capital will be able to travel for 1.35 euros thanks to the new urban transport service of the City Council
The new urban transport service in Murcia includes a reduction in the cost of a single bus ticket, so that Murcians will pay 1.5 euros if they pay in cash and 1.35 euros if they pay with a card or QR code. This represents a saving of 35 and 50 cents, respectively. The objective is to encourage the elimination of cash in the service, according to municipal sources in a statement.
These new rates were addressed this Tuesday by the Transportation Board, which, under the presidency of the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Road Cleaning, Carmen Fructuoso, dealt with various issues, such as the execution of works projects for the expansion of the reserved platforms for bike lanes and bus lanes, the final project for the Urban Transport Service by bus and the new call for ‘Next Generation’ funds.
During the meeting, detailed information was provided on the works that are being carried out and that will allow the construction of 43 kilometers of segregated bus lanes, which will allow buses to provide a “faster and more punctual service as their circulation is not hindered by private traffic”. , as well as 44 kilometers of segregated bike lanes.
The new collective public transport network by urban bus has also been reported, which will allow the reorganization into 66 lines compared to the current 44, implying the mobilization of 12.5 million passengers per year, with an increase in coverage to 96 .3% of the population.
In addition, connectivity with the most important points of the city will be optimized, as well as the implementation of new lines that create a transversal crown between districts. Frequencies will also be improved, with 92% of the population having an interval of less than 30 minutes.
Specifically, 120,000 people from districts will take less than 30 minutes to reach the urban area, reducing travel time by 9% overall compared to the current situation. Likewise, 133,000 and 190,000 people, respectively, will take less than half an hour to reach the Espinardo campus and the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital.
The new network structure favors the possibility of transfer in a simple way. In this way, practically all of the districts will have a direct link with their reference hospital and, at most, it will only be necessary to make a single transfer. On the other hand, this new system will allow the creation of a renewed and competitive fleet, made up of 135 ecological vehicles: 100% electric vehicles and compressed natural gas, which will reduce 379 tons of CO2 emitted per year.
Likewise, a flat rate system will be implemented, thanks to which the price of the ticket will be the same for all residents of the municipality, eliminating differences by place of residence. Bonuses will also be improved and a new transport card will be created to create loyalty and reward recurrence. For the first time, services will be provided to nuclei up to now without it, such as Torre Guil, Barqueros or Montepinar, among others.
In addition, night lines are introduced that cover various districts. Specifically, line N1 (Murcia-Zarandona-Casillas-Monteagudo-El Esparragal-Cobatillas); line N2 (Murcia-Puente Tocinos-Llano de Brujas-Santa Cruz-El Raal-Alquerías); line N3 (Murcia-Los Dolores-Beniaján-Torreagüera-Los Ramos-Zeneta); line N4 (Murcia-El Progreso-Algezares-Los Garres-San José de la Vega); line N5 (Murcia-Patiño-Santo Ángel-La Alberca-El Palmar); line N6 (Murcia-Aljucer-El Palmar-Sangonera la Verde); line N7 (Murcia-Nonduermas-Puebla de Soto-Era Alta-San Ginés-La Raya-Javalí Nuevo-Sangonera la Seca); line N8 (Murcia-Espinardo-Guadalupe-La Ñora-Rincón de Beniscornia) and line N9 (Murcia-Santiago and Zaraiche-Churra-Cabezo de Torres).
