In Formula 1 the wait for the appointment with the Singapore GP is getting shorter, but the period of pause from competitions has not yet canceled the controversy created in the last race of Monza. Above all, those relating to the final laps of the race, spent behind the Safety Car from the moment of Daniel Ricciardo’s retirement to the checkered flag, with the final GP then neutralized by the safety car.
An episode that, in addition to denying any opportunity to overtake or attack in the closing bars, also divided the opinion of the public and the team principals between ‘pro’ and ‘against’, with some of the latter having bitterly criticized the FIA for what happened. In this regard, the International Federation has also been defended for its work, starting with McLaren’s number one Andreas Seidl.
According to the German engineer, interviewed by RTLthe FIA should not be blamed, including as a result of a joint decision taken by the teams in the past: “In the end, the race direction it simply applied the existing rulesand it was right – commented – I think we should remember that, after the Abu Dhabi events, there was a lot of discussion between the FIA, F1 and all the teams involved to see how the rules could be changed to ensure that the races never end behind the safety car. . If the FIA and F1 pushed us to find solutions, the choice fell on us as a team, and we have not accepted any changes because we could not find a better solution that was also sportingly correct. Because of this – he added – I think we have to accept that unfortunately situations like these can happen. In the end we have voted to keep the rules as they are, and as far as I remember every single team voted this way. That’s why I think we should close the matter ”.
