In the city of Artsyz, Odessa region, a monument to Karl Marx was dismantled, which was located in front of the city council building. This was reported on September 17 by the Ukrainian portal “UNN” with reference to the Artsyz City Council.
It is specified that after the dismantling, the monument was transferred to the museum. The monument to Marx in the village of Kholmskoye will also be demolished.
It is noted that the changes are being made as part of the execution of a letter from the Bolgrad District State Administration and a recommendation from the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language on the need to rename the names of geographical objects and settlements associated with Russia, the history of the Russian Empire or the USSR.
The publication adds that in addition to these two monuments, monuments to Dmitry Donskoy and two monks – brothers Alexander Peresvet and Andrey-Rodion Oslyabi, canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church, will be dismantled.
In addition, the inscription on the monument to the fallen soldiers in Artsitsa will be changed.
“Change the date from 1941-1945 to 1939-1945, and also change the signature from “No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten” to “Never again,” writes UNN.
On September 12, the Kyiv State Council promulgated list of 40 renamed streets, avenues and squares associated with Russia and the Soviet past. In particular, Minsky Prospekt was renamed Litovsky, and Muromskaya Street – Vladimir Zhabotinsky Street, Dekabristov Street – Taras Brotherhood Street.
On August 25, it became known about the proposal of the deputy head of Odessa, Pavel Vugelman, to de-Russify more than 200 streets of the city. According to him, there is an interactive map of Ukraine, which shows all the streets to be renamed.
On July 24, the monument to the glory of the Soviet army, opened in 1970, was dismantled in Lvov. The monument of glory of the Soviet army is dedicated to the victory over Nazism. He depicts a soldier and the Motherland.
Since 2015, a policy of decommunization has been pursued in Ukraine within the framework of the law “On the Condemnation of the Communist and Nazi Regimes”. The law provides for the renaming of all topographic objects, the names of which are somehow connected with the Soviet Union, as well as the demolition of monuments and the dismantling of memorial plaques.
