The Yemeni city of Marib registered a heavy attack against the civilian population, when Houthi ballistic missiles were fired at a mosque and a religious school. The attack caused 29 victims between dead and wounded.
This Monday, November 1, the Government of Yemen denounced an attack with ballistic missiles launched by Houthi rebels against a mosque in the northern city of Marib. According to the Ministry of Communications, the attack left 29 victims among the dead and wounded. Although there are no official figures that specify the number of deaths, it has been revealed that among the victims there are children.
Earlier on Thursday, October 28, 13 people, including a child, were killed in a rocket fire at the home of a tribal chief south of Marib, according to a government military source who also accused the Houthis.

In recent months, the clashes have intensified. Some 10,000 people were displaced in September by the fighting in Marib, a strategic city for the country’s economy due to its oil and gas fields, according to the UN. The Houthis have been trying to conquer this area since February; it is the last bastion of the internationally recognized government in the north of the country.
Since late 2014, Shiite Houthi militias have controlled large areas of northern and western Yemen, including the capital Sana’a. In recent weeks, in their advance towards Marib, they have managed to invade much of the territory, despite aerial bombardments by the Saudi-led military coalition that supports the president, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi. The rebels say they are fighting a corrupt system and foreign interference.
The war in Yemen, economic collapse and restrictions on imports to Houthi-controlled areas have caused the world’s largest humanitarian crisis today, with 16 million people facing starvation, as reported by the United Nations.
Children are the most affected in the fighting
The NGO Save the Children condemned the attacks and reported that most of those affected were students who were in the mosque, which, it said, should be protected by international law since it is a religious temple.
An attack near the Aden International Airport (#Yemen) killed 12 civilians yesterday and a bombing in Taiz killed three underage brothers and seriously wounded another. The war in Yemen continues to kill boys and girls, we call for an end to the violence once and for all. https://t.co/BDfxYRenE7

The NGO called on the two sides in conflict to take precautions and protect the lives of minors and their families in the city of Marib, avoiding attacks on places such as religious temples and civil infrastructures.
The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is the largest in the world
Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the Middle East: insecurity, poverty and intensifying violence have affected the lives of millions of citizens, causing large numbers of deaths and causing a massive displacement of the civilian population. Currently, more than 20 million Yemenis require humanitarian aid and some 4 million already face famine.
The aforementioned UN report indicates that a humanitarian catastrophe is looming in the country. “If help is not received, many more lives will be lost due to violence, treatable diseases or lack of food, water and shelter,” he concludes.
