Once again, as has been constant in recent years, Colombian clubs suffer in international tournaments. Although the path of the Libertadores has just begun, since the matches are from the previous phase, the feeling is not the best.
On Tuesday, Millonarios self-destructed in their game, at home, against Fluminense. Felipe Melo, a man expert in tricks, misled the ambassador team with his behavior and pushed it to the limit. The expulsion of Venezuelan Sosa altered the pace proposed by Gamero’s team. Then he was never able to turn it around.
Nacional, this Thursday, collided head-on with Olimpia, a team with great experience in international instances. Although he played offensively and had great opportunities to go up, neither Alejandro Restrepo nor his team could react when the Paraguayans overcame them.
Next week will be the second leg. And, from the outset, both must row against the current. These are some of the reasons for its failure.
Lack of attitude (Hierarchy?
In both games, the lack of emotional strength of the Millonarios and Nacional soccer players was highlighted.
In the case of the ambassadors, Eduardo Sosa’s excess of emotion summed up everything: 18 minutes, one goal and two yellow cards.
In that of Nacional, the third goal that the team conceded, in the last minutes, was the demonstration that the concentration must be maximum in foreign events.
Everything, added to the fact that most of its young players do not have great international experience.
individual errors
Although the easiest thing will always be to point out those who remain in the photo of the goals, the mistakes of some players were decisive for both defeats.
In Millonarios, David Mackalister Silva, the leader of the locker room, missed a penalty that could have represented victory at the time. Montero, who was solid in goal, had a bad rebound on Fluminense’s first goal and complicated the day.
In Nacional, the lack of aim of the strikers explains much of the failure. Likewise, the passivity with which he scored in Olimpia’s first goal was lethal.
