During the second day of testing in Barcelona, which took place yesterday, the Red flag on the Montmeló track it had only been exhibited on two occasions, one of which was useful for bringing Sergio Perez’s Red Bull back to the pits with the gearbox damaged. Today, especially in the morning, the session on the Spanish track was interrupted by ben five out of programwhich involved different teams and drivers in a more or less serious way.
In this sense, the first to initiate the ‘curse’ of the red flag was the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso: the Alpine rider, after having made a small off-piste, was subsequently forced to retire due to a loss of pressure, with the French car having a breakdown at turn 13 and with the power unit in smoke. Subsequently, close to the lunch break, the marshals interrupted the activity on the track for another four times: in three of these cases, the pilots lifted their foot from the accelerator due to the spin of Pierre Gasly and Guanyu Zhou, with the Chinese Alfa Romeo author of two consecutive errors. However, the ‘grand finale’ was signed by Sebastian Vettelalso on foot from his Aston Martin for a knockout at the power unit.
In conclusion, the morning also recorded technical problems for another driver, not surprisingly the author of the lowest number of laps completed: Nikita Mazepin. The Russian from Haas, in fact, encountered some difficulties immediately communicated to the team, with the latter having initially decided to take part in the tests in the afternoon. A choice that, on the other hand, was then transformed into a flat rateexactly like those taken by Alpine and Aston Martin, thanks to the retirements of Alonso and Vettel.
