On the occasion of the elections of June 2, 2024Mexico City will implement a Dry Law. Here we tell you what days, from what time and in what municipalities.
The restriction It will begin at 00:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 1 and will end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 2.. During this period, the sale of alcoholic beverages will be prohibited throughout the city, covering the 16 municipalities without exception.
Where will the dry law apply in CDMX?
The Prohibition Law will apply to all commercial establishments in Mexico City that sell alcoholic beveragessuch as wineries, grocery stores, supermarkets, self-service and department stores.
This restriction includes the home sale and extends to any similar business that sells alcoholic beverages of any strength.
However, The consumption of alcoholic beverages will be allowed in restaurantsas long as they are accompanied with food.
On June 2, the citizens of CDMX will vote to renew the Head of Government, mayors and local councils, as well as the Presidency, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
Why is Prohibition implemented?
The Prohibition Law is implemented in accordance with articles 22 and 25 of the General Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures and articles 300 and 358 of the Code of Electoral Institutions and Procedures of Mexico City.
These provisions allow the competent authorities to establish measures to limit the sale of alcohol in order to ensure order during elections.
Violations of this measure will be sanctioned in accordance with the Law of Commercial Establishments for Mexico City. The Government Secretariat has urged mayors to supervise compliance with the Prohibition Law through their administrative verification personnel.
