Pokémon TCG Pocket is the next big foray for Pikachu and company into mobile devices. This experience promises to bring the collecting experience and simplify the competitive aspect for veterans and those who will enter this world for the first time. In this way, We had the opportunity to speak with the developers about how this title will be part of The Pokémon Company ecosystem.
During our visit to The Pokémon Company offices in Mexicowe had the opportunity to talk with Satoru Nagaya, artistic director of Creatures, Ryo Tsujikawa, creative director of Creatures, Keita Hirobe, executive director of The Pokémon Company, Ryosuke Hanawa, director of The Pokémon Company, and Ryo Tsujikawa, creative director of Creatures, about the cards and the competitive section of the game.
Pokémon TCG Pocket has a heavy focus on collecting, where cards have unique effects that are impossible to replicate in the physical game, such as immersive animations and 3D holograms. So, we asked the developers whether this approach to cards will in any way change the way Creatures makes physical cardsand perhaps see a 3D aspect in the future. This is what Creatures creative director Ryo Tsujikawa didn’t comment on:
“The visuals of the cards in [Pokémon TCG] Pocket was something that took us a long time to consider. Some of the new visual elements in TCG Pocket, many players will want to see in the physical. We know that, but at the moment we are exploring the possibilities, and we are trying to figure out how to combine digital effects with the cards to make them more attractive. We are focused on making TCG Pocket as good as possible, but by working on Creates, both in Pocket and in physical, we will share ideas, and if there is an interesting way to make a card as we learned in TCG Pocket, maybe we will apply it to the physical cards and vice versa.”
Another important aspect of Pokémon TCG Pocket is the way it substantially simplifies combat. Instead of having the complexity of physical gameplay, here we find a system that anyone can understand and enjoy. With this in mind, we wanted to know if the developers They intended to add a more competitive mode in the future, or if the experience we find here could reach the Pokémon World Championships. This is what Ryo Tsujikawa, creative director of Creatures, told us about it:
“Our goal with [Pokémon TCG] Pocket, at least in the beginning, is about making it easy for new players, for those who haven’t had the chance to play TCG. This doesn’t just apply to the collection element, but also to the battles. It’s an experience optimized for mobile and for new players. We know that when it comes to Pokémon cards, there will be players who will be more interested in the competitive aspect. Depending on the users, we will consider adding things like ranked battles and tournaments.”
This way, it is clear that the developers have big plans with Pokémon TCG Pocket in the future and hopefully this experience could become a new pillar for The Pokémon Company. We remind you that Pokémon TCG Pocket will arrive on mobile devices on October 30, 2024On related topics, you can check out our Hands On for this title here.
