It was presented today Village Italyainternational exhibition of Italian excellence which will be set up next to the landing pier of the training ship of the Amerigo Vespucci Navy, already ambassador of Made in Italy in the world, in eight ports of the sailing ship’s world tour. Amerigo Vespucci, committed to both nin the educational-training activity for the officer students of the Naval Academy of Livorno and that of Naval Diplomacy, began its “world tour” from Genoa in July 2023 which in 11 months of navigation has already reached 15 of the 31 countries planned, touching 18 of the over 30 ports that will be reached overall and visiting so three of the five continents. With the arrival in the city of Los Angeles, the tour combines the stay in the ports of the ship Vespucci, already ambassador of Made in Italy in the world and engaged not only in training activities but also in that of Naval Diplomacy, a “World Exhibition multi-year itinerant” (Emip): the Villaggio Italia. At the inter-ministerial conference presenting the Villaggio Italia, held today at the propylaeum of the Vittoriano in Rome, took part: the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, who strongly supported and promoted the initiative; the deputy minister of Business and Made in Italy, Valentino Valentini; the Chief of Staff of the Navy, team admiral Enrico Credendino; and the CEO of Difesa Servizi, Luca Andreoli. The captain of the vessel was also connected from the Pacific Ocean Giuseppe Laiship commander Amerigo Vespucci.
Tested in the Buenos Aires stage last March, the Villaggio Italia has grown and evolved into an international exhibition made in Italy that brings together the “nationals of Italian excellence”. In Los Angeles, Tokyo, Darwin, Singapore, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Jeddah, Italy therefore presents itself with an innovative and engaging space through which it communicates, hosts and welcomes not only Italians around the world, but also citizens and visitors of the cities reached by the Vespucci through the culture, creativity, research and innovation of Made in Italy, sport, sustainability projects and the Italian landscape heritage. The Villaggio Italia will be an innovative and engaging space that revolves around a large “Piazza Italia” characterized by multimedia equipment with a video tower in the center to symbolize the bell towers and towers of our country. An articulated schedule curated by the highest Italian authorities and excellences will offer visitors the opportunity to participate in conferences, talks, business and institutional meetings, cinema, concerts, cooking shows, immersive exhibitions, art, sport, technology, design, presentations and, of course , visits on board the training ship Amerigo Vespucci.
During today’s press conference, the Minister Crosetto he explained that the objective of the initiative is to use the Amerigo Vespucci ship to tell all the beauty of the country. At the moment, the Vespucci is heading towards Los Angeles for the stop in port and the inauguration of the Villaggio Italia scheduled for July 3rd. Without the initiative of the Villaggio Italia “has started yet, think about how it can become a multiplier”, said Crosetto, adding that the initiative demonstrates that “even something that seems distant from culture, from industry (like Defence) can be an element of synergy”. The minister underlined the importance of working in “synergy, leaving aside divisions” and of “talking about our country, helping it grow, helping those who create wealth”. To the project promoted by the Ministry of Defense and created in collaboration with Difesa Servizian in-house company of the ministry that supports all phases of the campaign, the following are participating: the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – with the Ministry for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies and the Ministry for Sport and Youth –; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; the Ministry of Economy and Finance; the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport; the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy; the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests; the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security; the Ministry of Culture; and the Ministry of Tourism.
The Villaggio Italia is a “traveling mini Expo” that aims to celebrate and showcase the country’s excellence, explained Luca Andreoli, CEO of Difesa Servizi, during today’s press conference. It is “both a physical and digital village,” he explained Andreoliadding that from June 2025 “the idea is to accompany the world tour (of Vespucci) also with an Italian tour”, starting from the port of Trieste. “We at Defense and Services feel a sense of pride in having been entrusted” with creating the Villaggio Italia, said Andreoli, underlining that it is a “Italy’s project for Italy”. On his part, the Deputy Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Valentino Valentinihe has declared: “In the modern world of increasingly rapid communication and social media, the prevailing competition between countries is based on storytelling, which is not a childish or negative thing: it serves to tell ourselves and to reflect on who we are, where we come from and it serves to tell the rest of the world who we are, what Italy is.. The narration contains stories that allow us to evoke emotions, values, myths and Vespucci is one of the most important myths of narration in our country”. Made in Italy, like Vespucci’s world tour, must not be a narrative that only praises the past, but “it must always be an incentive to do more”, underlined Valentini. With Villaggio Italia, we also want to “narrate how Italy intends to open up to new investments”, explained the deputy minister. Valentini added that the initiative will include two panels, one on the blue economy and one on the space economy, in which Italy plays an important role. This year, for example, saw the participation of Air Force astronaut Walter Villadei in the Ax-3 mission.
There ship Amerigo Vespucci And “the history of our Navy over the last hundred years”, said the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral Enrico Credendino, on the sidelines of the press conference. “All naval officers pass through Vespucci when they are students, with very few exceptions. So it is truly a national pride, considered the most beautiful ship in the world,” added Credendino. The dubbing of Cape Horn, completed last April by Vespucci, “marks the history of the ship, but more generally the history of the Navy“, said Credendino, underlining that “it is the first time that Vespucci has rounded Cape Horn. There are very few sailing ships of that size that have rounded it. So it is a very exciting, unique undertaking, which also highlights the maritime tradition of our country and our sailors.” Connected from Amerigo Vespucci, the captain Giuseppe Lai, commander of the ship, also spoke during the conference.
Second LaiVespucci is “a reference for many Italians abroad and beyond”. We still feel “very strong emotions” for the rounding of Cape Horn, said the commander, underlining that it was “a dream, a vibrant emotion of something that struck us as sailors and as men”. “The further we go, the more we realize how much Italians love us,” Lai highlighted.
