At least two Ukrainian soldiers died on Saturday from shrapnel wounds and four others were injured in Donbasin eastern Ukraine, as a result of attacks by separatist forces, the Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation press center reported on Saturday.

“As a result of the attacks, two soldiers received shrapnel wounds incompatible with life. Four others were injured of varying severity and are hospitalized,” said the statement, posted on Facebook.
Kiev’s army reported 66 armed incidents as of 7 am (local time), a particularly high number, while rebels in the separatist stronghold of Donetsk called the situation “critical”.
The Kiev statement said the rebels used banned 82- and 120-millimeter howitzers (cannons) in their attacks on front-line towns in the regions of Lugansk and Donetsk, in the east of Ukraine.

“The armed forces control the situation and continue to carry out their mission to reject and contain the armed aggression of the Russian Federation,” the text indicates, prior to the announcement of the soldier’s death.
Amid rising tension, the leaders of the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine ordered this Saturday general mobilization.

Russia denies any involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine and describes it as an internal matter of that country.
