According to the meteorologist, the weather on May Day can be anything.
On the weekend it may rain or sleet in different parts of the country.
Meteorologist on duty at the Meteorological Institute Hannu Valta tells STT that the water-sleet rain area is moving from the southern and central parts of the country to the north today. It can rain and sleet in the western parts of the country. In the south and east, the weather is starting to get worse.
In cloudy areas, the readings are at intervals of 3–7 degrees, and in rainy areas, the temperatures remain at a few degrees.
Snowfall is expected in Lapland on Saturday. In the western part of the country and in the zone extending from Ostrobothnia to Kainuus, there will be scattered sleet, and further south there may be occasional showers. It is likely to be cloudy in the south and east, while it will be cloudier in the west and north. According to Valla, the rainfall is not high.
In the south and east, the temperature can rise to ten degrees. In Lapland, the temperature remains at zero and elsewhere between 2 and 5 degrees.
On Sunday according to Valla, there is a warm air mass in the southern part of the country and cold in the north. The temperature can rise up to 13 degrees in the south, but predictability is poor.
“The cloudiness is quite abundant, but the sun can make an appearance,” says Valta.
In the north, it will remain a few degrees on Sunday.
According to Valla, the weather on May Day can be anything, especially in southern Finland. The weather depends on whether a warm air mass can flow into Finland or whether it will be cold from the north. In the Baltics, the temperature can rise to over 20 degrees at the beginning of the week.
