The US sends new weapons to support Kyiv in the Ukraine war. A Russian diplomat warned directly and pointed out the consequences.
Kyiv – The US has announced that it will support Ukraine with another large aid package. A step that is received less positively in Russia. The classification by diplomats is correspondingly bleak.
The United States has now announced arms deliveries worth 625 million US dollars (625 million euros). The package includes other Himars multiple rocket launchers, ammunition and armored vehicles, the White House announced on Tuesday (October 4). In a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Joe Biden also stressed that the US would never recognize the illegal annexation of parts of eastern Ukraine by Russia.
US sends more weapons to Ukraine
Biden stressed the US government’s willingness to impose “heavy costs” on any country that supports the annexation. He promised to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression for as long as needed.
According to the US State Department, the arms package for Ukraine is held by the Pentagon. This brings US military support to Ukraine to a total equivalent of $17.5 billion since the beginning of Biden’s tenure. Most of the aid has been granted since Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine began on February 24. Just last week, the US government promised an arms package worth $1.1 billion.
US sends Ukraine more weapons – Russia diplomat warns gloomily: “Closer to dangerous line”
In view of the new package for Ukraine, a Russian diplomat immediately warned of the escalation of the Ukraine war. The military aid would not only prolong the war, “but also bring the situation closer to a dangerous line of a direct military clash between Russia and NATO,” said Konstantin Vorontsov, the head of the Russian delegation to the United Nations Disarmament Commission, according to CNN. “The US continues to pump more arms into Ukraine, facilitating the direct participation of its fighters and advisers in the conflict,” Vorontsov said.
Meanwhile, a Russian military train being taken to the Ukraine border is fueling nuclear fears. Will Putin escalate the situation further? (dpa/rjs)
