Turkey wants to organize a meeting of Russian and German energy ministers in Istanbul in December. On Wednesday, October 26, the newspaper reported AydInlIk with reference to the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Istanbul Economic Summit, Abdullah Deger.
“We can unite countries and organizations in conflict. In fact, we would like to bring together the energy ministers of Germany and Russia. This will be a great success for Turkey and the Istanbul Economic Summit. I even suggested it to the parties. They said it was unrealistic, but suddenly everything can be implemented within 24 hours, ”the newspaper quoted the chairman as saying.
Deger noted that the summit will be held at the Chiragan Palace on December 8-9 in Istanbul. According to him, foreign companies, including Russian ones, will take an active part in it.
Earlier that day, it became known that Turkey currently does not have information about the volumes of gas that the EU countries will be ready to buy from Russia if a hub is created on the territory of the republic.
The head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, announced on October 25 that an agreement in principle had been reached with the Russian side on the creation of a gas hub in Turkey. He stated that the Turkish government has begun to carry out the work on its part.
On October 17, the Turkish authorities called for support for Ankara in the creation of an international gas hub. As Omer Celik, the official representative of the country’s ruling party, noted, Turkey is ready to fulfill the mission of turning it into the energy base of Europe. According to him, everyone agrees that Turkey is the most reliable country to implement this initiative.
In addition, on October 16, Alexei Miller, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, announced that thanks to the new Turkish hub, it would be possible to redirect all the gas volumes that fell due to the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream.
Before that, on October 14, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara would take all measures to ensure the security of the gas hub. According to the President of Turkey, an international gas hub will be created as soon as possible in the European part of the country – Thrace. He recalled that the national hub in Turkey has already been built.
