“On February 24, when we heard those bombs, we thought no more and ran away”, were the words of Margarita Kozhakila, who arrived in Bogotá escaping from the crisis in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion, to ‘Noticias Caracol’.
As he recounted, his family, from the city of Kharkov, decided that the Colombian capital would be their refuge because here they found the help of distant relatives: “I came to Colombia because my husband’s family, my brother-in-law, is here. They are here and can help me to survive right now“.

“We took our documents and with what we could take with our hands we leftKozhakila said, referring to her son and the little boy’s grandmother. Unfortunately, her husband had to stay in the Ukraine to fight.
“He left me at the border and came back. He is currently in a residence hoping that he will not be the object of military bombing”, he narrated to the mentioned medium.
The journey of the Kozhakila family
They traveled by car through much of Ukraine, stopping at shelters along the way, until they reached the Polish border; in which it was not easy to move from one country to another.
At the airport in the Polish city of Krakow they found help from the government, which allows cars to be left in public parking lots at no cost, where Margarita’s must follow.

In addition, in Poland they are allowing refugees from Ukraine to buy food at a 50 percent discount.
Finally, They arrived in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, by plane and took another flight to Colombia.

The relatives of the woman, who “have had to suffer the bombings with greater intensity”, had to stay in the European country: “Even when we were in a supermarket we had to suffer the impact of a bomb and we started running towards the basements”.
