Is called Andrea Lattuada the man who last January 21st, in the middle of the basketball match valid for the Lombardy Serie D championship that he was playing, left the field in a hurry, despite not being injured. The reason why he did it is very sweet and, in a few hours, it went viral throughout Italy.
These are the days in which Italian sport celebrates the magnificent success of Jannik Sinner in the just concluded edition of Australian Open. The 22-year-old from South Tyrol defeated the Russian Medveded in 5 sets, winning the first Grand Slam trophy of his career and bringing one back to Italy, in the men's singles category, 48 years after Adriano Panatta's triumph at Roland Garros.
Yet, at the same time, it is there another Italian sportsman who attracted attention for a gesture he made last January 21st and which did not go unnoticed at all.
He, Andrea Lattuada, is an engineer originally from Legnanowith an enormous passion for basketball that has 'persecuted' him since he was a child.
He has come to practice it at a competitive and amateur level, although certainly not at the levels of the aforementioned tennis colleague, and currently plays in the Lombardy Serie D with the jersey of Basketball Lonate.
On Sunday 21 January he was on the pitch to play the match against rivals Gorla Maggiore. Towards the end of the second quarter he suddenly heard someone from the audience yell his name and get his attention.
It was his calling momwho then told him some very simple words: “Andrea, the time has come”.

The 32-year-old basketball player, aware of the fact that his wife Carola there was very little left to start the labor, he had agreed with his parents to call him whenever it was time to go to the hospital. And that moment came right in the middle of the match.
Andrea understood immediately and has asked the referee if he could be replaced. He then quickly changed and got into the car to head to his wife.
The little girl, the little one Lavinia, she then came into the world the following Tuesday. She is healthy and happy, as are her mother and her father, who among other things has already returned to the field to dedicate another basket to him.
