The CGT union denounces the absence of a “contingency plan” due to the shortage of staff and the possibility of contagion of the troops
Some fire stations in the Region remained closed or operating at half gas on key days of the festivities – such as Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s Eve – «due to the lack of a contingency plan that would assume both the scarce current operational staff, as well as the possibility of that the firefighters were infected with COVID19 “, according to a complaint by the CGT union section of the Fire Extinction and Rescue Consortium (CEIS).
This specifies that areas such as Abanilla, Santomera, Beniel, San Pedro del Pinatar or Los Alcázares were left unprotected for full days of their usual firefighting crews. In addition, it warns of a reduction of up to 50% of the workforce during those days in parks such as Yecla, Alcantarilla, Los Alcázares and Molina del Segura. In the case of the Molinense park, the CGT warns that despite being the main park of the CEIS that provides support to the rest, it had only 6 firefighters on Christmas Eve.
Up to 45 minute response
“This decrease in the security of Murcia means response times to a fire or catastrophe of up to 45 minutes in urban centers,” warns the union. He insists on the “urgent need to imminently incorporate career civil servants to our fire service, so that we can face the patent lack of personnel.” It also requires the Management “effective preventive and contingency planning that allows the Fire Service of the Region to give citizens the assistance they deserve.”
