WhatsApp has begun to implement voice message transcriptions: a new function that will allow you to read voice messages. This was announced by Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, which is the parent company of the messaging ‘app’, in a recent publication on his personal channel.
On paper, the functionality seems very interesting. It has happened to all users on more than one occasion that they have received a voice note from a contact when they were not in the ideal situation to be able to hear it. With the advent of this functionality, the hiccup can be easily overcome by converting voice to text.
This functionality can be used in the ‘Chats’ section, within the ‘Settings’ configuration and after activating the ‘Voice message transcriptions’ button. Likewise, it is necessary to hold down the voice message for the ‘Transcribe’ option to appear. However, it is most likely that you will still have to wait a little longer to be able to use it.
The new WhatsApp features are not available to all users from the moment of launch; On the contrary, it is necessary to wait a few weeks until a novelty is finally available to everyone.
The messaging application has announced that the functionality reaches both iOS and Android devices at the same time. In the version of WhatsApp for the Google operating system, the transcription of voice notes will be available in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian.
Apple’s iOS 16 operating system version will also support these languages in addition to Italian, Japanese. Korean, Chinese, Turkish and Arabic. For iOS 17 and later versions, the arrival of Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Thai and Malay is expected.
