The PSOE will not use the term LGTBI+ or LGBTIQ+ in its political documents. The references that will come out of its Federal Congress held in Seville are limited to the acronyms LGTBI. This was decided by the plenary session of its conclave this Saturday.
The first draft of the framework presentation made by the socialist leadership did include the people queer and the identities marked as plus, under the + sign. But, as this media reported, debate on the matter was expected.
The acronym “Q” refers to “queer” people, which refers to those people who reject all types of hegemonic classifications of the binary system male/female, heterosexuality/homosexuality. The acronym “+” includes groups that are not represented in the previous acronyms. Identities such as fluid gender or non-binary people would be included, as well as other sexual orientations such as pansexuality or asexuality.
In addition, an amendment made by the Guadalajara delegation about vetoing the participation of people of the “male sex” in sports competitions for women. After both votes in the plenary session, the so-called “classical feminism” sector celebrated with chants of “long live the women’s struggle.”
The decision has provoked the rejection of the former Minister of Equality Irene Monterowhich already had tensions with a sector of the socialists due to the trans law approved last legislature. “This from the PSOE is not classic feminism, it is transphobia. Stand up to prejudices and misinformation: trans women are women and trans rights are human rights,” she noted on her social networks.
