For several years it was no longer necessary to have another document other than a passport to enter the old continent. However, now the European Union will start asking for a new requirement.
This is the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) permit. a completely digital document that will allow entry and stay in the Schengen area for a period of 90 days.

Schengen is known to the 26 countries that make up this space. It is an agreement that eliminated border controls for the member countries of the European Union.
The objective of this new permit is to improve and promote immigration security for people who enter for short stays such as tourism or business trips.
The countries that will need the ETIAS permit are those Latin Americans that previously could only enter with a passport. These are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Panama, Peru, Uruguay or Venezuela.
In other words, if you go from Colombia to a country in the European Union, you will have to previously request the permit. However, until it comes into effect in 2023, you will still be able to enter the Schengen area with just your passport.

How to get the ETIAS permit?
The document is obtained online and for this the person must have a valid passport and a credit or debit card to pay the cost of the permit.
To request it, you must enter the website and fill out the forms that are requested there. The questionnaire will have questions about criminal history, purposes of the trip and other data. This information will be verified to make sure the person is not a security threat.
The time you will have to fill out the form will be between 10 and 20 minutes. If the application is approved, you will receive the permit and it will be valid for three years or until the expiration of your passport.
If you are denied, you may request an appeal. So far it is known that the price of the ETIAS permit will be seven euros (about 28 thousand Colombian pesos) for those over 18. In minors it will be totally free.
