The secretary of Communication from the Presidency of Ecuador, Roberto Izurietaresigned from his position this Thursday and became the third departure from the president's cabinet Daniel Noboa since he began his mandate in November 2023.
The Government Spokesperson He recalled in his letter that he took office with the mission of helping the Executive to establish itself and to reach the referendum held last Sunday, in which Noboa received broad support for nine measures to strengthen the fight against organized crime but obtained significant rejection on two issues on international arbitrations and close to allowing hourly contracts.
This is the third change within the Noboa Government since the referendum was held last Sunday.
In that sense, he appreciated the president's decision to face the situation together with his ministers and general commanders of the Police and Armed Forces.
“I wish my successor every success and offer her my full support. My commitment to you, Mr. President, is long-term. I am sure that my contribution from May 1 will be different and will allow me to focus on new objectives for the new Ecuador,” said Izurieta, who did not reveal the name of his successor.
According to local media, Izurieta will return to Washington, where he already resided before serving as Ecuador's ambassador to Chile, to join the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
That same day he confirmed Mónica Palencia in the Interior portfolio, who until then also held the Government portfolio, for which he appointed Michele Sensi Contugi. Likewise, Alegría Crespo came in to take over the Ministry of Education, replacing Daniel Calderón.
Before the referendum, the Minister of Energy and Mines Andrea Arrobo resigned – at Noboa's public request – due to a serious energy crisis due to a shortage of electricity that led to blackouts in the country of up to eight and thirteen hours, a measure that the minister had ruled out that it occurred two days before.
