The management of El Retiro has informed the Madrid Book Fair that this Thursday afternoon, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the orange alert will be activated due to adverse meteorological phenomena, with strong gusts of wind and temperatures that could exceed 35ºC.
Given this situation, the Organizing Committee of the Fair has decided not to open in the afternoon – under normal conditions, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. -, which is why it has offered exhibitors the possibility of keeping their booths open this Thursday. until 3:00 p.m. instead of having to close at 2:00 p.m. The events scheduled in the different pavilions in the central area of the Paseo de Coches are also suspended, starting at 6:00 p.m.
The alert does not affect the events that will be held this afternoon inside the Eugenio Trías Municipal Library, which will be able to take place.
Likewise, the official notification from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) recommends that users not remain detained under the trees due to the strong gusts of wind that are expected. The Aemet has activated the yellow warning in Madrid (the first of the year), although not due to wind but due to high temperatures and with values over 35ºC in some areas of the Community. In fact, thermometers may reach 38ºC in some areas of the south and east of the region.
Other communities also have activated warnings: Andalusia with an orange warning due to high temperatures and waves, while they are yellow in Aragón, Castilla y León (in this case also due to storms), Navarra, Catalonia and Galicia (due to adverse coastal phenomena).
However, the Fair organization will update this information in the event of any change to the current prediction.
