Judge Francisco de Jorge, instructor of the National Court, sent one of the men arrested for the attack on Alejo Vidal-Quadras, former president of the PP of Catalonia and founder of Vox, to provisional prison this Friday, who was shot in the face on November 9 in a central neighborhood of Madrid. In line with the Prosecutor’s Office, the magistrate has ordered the detention of Naraya G., arrested on Tuesday by the National Police after two weeks of investigations. The public ministry attributes the crime of “attempted terrorist murder” to him, as does his partner, the British Sasha B., and the third suspect, Adrián RB; who have been released after testifying.
After listening to the three throughout this Friday – who have remained incommunicado since their capture and who have been assigned public defenders – the public ministry has requested the entry into prison without bail of the two men, before the risk of escape. However, the judge has only approved the initiative for one of them: Naraya G., detained in Lanjarón (Granada). The second arrested person has been released, although the magistrate has imposed precautionary measures: he has taken away his passport, prohibited him from leaving Spain and obliged him to appear in court every 15 days. De Jorge has decreed the same precautionary measures for the woman, as the public prosecution had requested in his case. The summary remains secret.
After spending two weeks in hospital, the Gregorio Marañón hospital discharged Vidal-Quadras this Thursday. Shortly before leaving the health center, the former politician distributed a letter to accuse Iran of “plotting and executing” his attack. In that letter, where the former leader of the PP and Vox emphasizes the “evil will” of the ayatollah regime, it is highlighted that the attack was intended to assassinate him. “The Iranian regime does not want to find some balance of power between us, it wants to wipe us off the earth’s surface. As long as we do not understand and accept this terrible truth, we will fail and be defeated,” adds the text, read on Wednesday at an event organized in the European Parliament by the Friends of Free Iran group, with the presence of Maryam Rajavi, president of the National Council of the Resistance of Iran (CNRI, an organization persecuted by Tehran and which appeared on the US list of terrorist organizations until 2012).
The attack against Vidal-Quadras occurred on November 9 on Núñez de Balboa street, in the central area of Madrid. The former politician was shot in the face by a gunman who fled on a motorcycle. It was a single shot, with a nine millimeter Parabellum caliber weapon. Immediately, the National Police opened an investigation with many hypotheses on the table, which was investigated as terrorism two days later and which, during the following two weeks, was narrowed down. As a result of the investigations, the agents arrested the first three suspects this Tuesday, who were placed at the disposal of Judge De Jorge this Friday.
The police arrested a couple in Lanjarón (Granada)—he of Spanish nationality and she of British nationality—and a man in Fuengirola (Málaga), also Spanish, for their alleged relationship with the shooter, an alleged Tunisian hitman, who remains on the run. . The agents highlight the role of the first of them, Naraya G., born in Cáñar (Granada, 350 inhabitants), whom they point out as the person who hired and paid the shooter on behalf of other unidentified individuals. The researchers keep the Iranian trail alive as a hypothesis, due to the ties that Vidal-Quadras wove with the dissidents of the ayatollah regime since his time as a European parliamentarian for the PP (1999-2014).

The detained woman responds to the name of Sasha B., and is the partner of Naraya G. According to police sources, investigators are not very clear about her degree of involvement in the crime and if she knew about her romantic partner’s goings-on. They both lived together in a home in the name of her mother. And, according to the mayor of Lanjarón, the arrested woman had moved to the municipality in 2010 and was fully integrated into the population.
The third captured is Adrián RB, an unemployed man from Malaga. According to investigation sources, Naraya G. allegedly contacted him to buy and put in his name a motorcycle, later used by the hitman to travel to Madrid and, after the attack, flee. In exchange, he gave him 500 euros for the management, according to the suspicions of the National Police.
The fourth implicated person who has been put on the table is Mehrez A., the alleged escaped hitman: a 37-year-old Tunisian citizen residing in France, whom the Police point to as the alleged shooter. Before the attack, the French authorities already had an arrest warrant for murder issued against him. According to sources in the case, although he carried out the attack with his head covered with a motorcycle helmet, security cameras captured him with his face uncovered in the previous days, when he supposedly went to reconnoiter the area near the former politician’s home.
