The opposition demands that he submit to a drug test. Sanna Marin defends her right to have fun
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has defended herself against accusations of drug use after the publication of a private video that was recorded in a house where she was having a party with a group of friends. “I have not used any drugs, so I have no problem taking a drug test,” the 36-year-old Social Democrat responded to the opposition, who requested this type of test after the images in which Marin dances in a suggestive attitude went viral. , difficult to associate with the public image of a head of government, and in which one of those present makes a reference to cocaine when he shouts: «Flour streak!».
Finland’s Prime Minister @MarinSanna is in the headlines after a video of her partying was leaked today.
She has previously been criticized for attending too many music festivals & spending too much on partying instead of ruling.

“The videos are private, they were recorded in private places,” explained the prime minister, who knew that she was being recorded at all times. “I spent a night with friends, in which alcohol was consumed, but in which I did not use drugs or witness drug use by others.”
Among the friends with whom he celebrated in a house, before going out and going through at least two nightclubs, were a Finnish influencer, a singer, a deputy from the same party and two television presenters. “I spend my free time just like other people my age. I hope that is accepted,” Marin demanded in a statement to the Yle television network, “we live in a democracy.”
The video, of which the source that published it on networks does not appear for now and whose leak has been published by the newspaper ‘Iltalethi’, has tensed Finnish politics at a delicate moment, in the midst of the process of joining NATO, a step which requires a particularly high level of consensus.
After the images surfaced on social media, Center Party MP Mikko Karna, one of Marin’s coalition partners, tweeted that it would be “smart” for Marin to voluntarily submit to a drug test. Antti Lindtman, leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Marin, has guaranteed, for his part, in a press conference of his party that the prime minister has the support of his group. “I don’t see much of a problem with him dancing with friends at a private event,” he justified. As for a potential drug test, “it’s up to Marin to assess that,” Lindtman added.
past parties
Marin is the youngest person to have served as head of government in Finnish history. When he took office in 2019, he was 34 years old. She has previously been criticized for parties held at her residence and in December 2021 it was learned that she Marin had danced all night in a nightclub despite the fact that she had been in contact with someone who had tested positive for Covid- 19. According to a poll commissioned by the Finnish television channel MTV3 at the time, two-thirds of those questioned believed that Marin’s partying was “a serious mistake”.
On this occasion, Marin acknowledges that “I drank alcohol, but I did not use drugs or anything other than alcohol” and insists that “I have nothing to hide.” She defends her right to a private schedule in which they appear, for example, attending a music festival several weeks ago, in which she posed wearing crotch-high jeans and a black leather jacket. She herself posted the photos of her on her Instagram account.
While the Finnish people have shown no reticence about their head of government having fun, the repetition of these types of scenes in public is giving the impression that Marin cares more about partying than governing, at a time when which is badly needed with the confidence of the Finns in their government.
