Faced with the challenge of filling vacancies in the technology sector throughout Brazil, two big big techs decided to roll up their sleeves and help accelerate the training of manpower. Together, Meta – owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp – and Amazon Web Services (AWS) – a company specializing in cloud services from Amazon.com Inc. – aim to train up to 50,000 Brazilians to work with digital marketing, cloud and metaverse programming. The project aims to train new professionals by 2023 and thus cover part of the deficit of 530,000 people by 2025, estimated by the Brazilian Association of Information Technology and Communication Companies (Brasscom).
With an increasingly digital landscape, promoting massive training has become essential. “The pandemic has accelerated digitization and also the search for professionals,” said Andréa Leal, AWS Training Program Manager for Latin America. The Portal Tech program focuses on the states of Alagoas, Amazonas, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Pernambuco and São Paulo.
And this will only partially meet the needs of the market, according to Brasscom, as the demand for professionals will remain strong until 2025, especially in software and services companies, which demand 71% of the vacancies in the sector today and up to 72.5 % in 2025. In five years it is estimated that there will be a gap of up to 797 thousand professionals.

In addition to this new endeavor, AWS already offers other intensive courses. In partnership with O Boticário, it intends to train up to 300 thousand people in Brazil. In both cases, AWS has the help of training companies such as KA Solution and Proz Educação, which specializes in professional training courses present throughout Brazil. With revenues of US$ 78.9 billion per year, the company does not reveal the investment, but emphasizes that it has signed a commitment to train 29 million people in the cloud in the world by 2025. And for that, it will use its more than 500 free online courses in over 16 different languages. Since 2017, he has trained 300,000 in Brazil and 800,000 in Latin America. “If we don’t do that, it will get more and more complicated and we are already experiencing a scenario of cannibalization in the search for talent”, said Andréa.
For Meta, the more people who know how to use digital tools, the better. According to Meta Brasil’s head of public policy programs, Carolina Ferracini, whoever used Meta’s services already signaled a lack of manpower. “On the one hand, we have a huge shortage of professionals, on the other, 10 million unemployed and 40% of the population in the informal market,” she said. And if there is still any doubt about the potential of this sector, it is worth remembering that the salary in IT is about 2.5 times higher than the average earnings of Brazilians.
