He was a key figure in the fight against Apartheid
The Archbishop Emeritus of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu, one of the great symbols of the struggle against Apartheid, has died at the age of 90.
The announcement of his death has been made by the South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, who has described his death as “another episode of national mourning during the farewell to a generation that gave us a liberated South Africa”, in the official statement collected by News24.
Tutu had been hospitalized earlier this month due to an infection.
The former Archbishop of Cape Town retired from public life in 2010, although he has continued to address various issues since then, including corruption in the African country’s political elite.
