Israeli ministers are pushing for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to release images of the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7 last year to “counter” the protests at US universities against the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.
According to a Channel 12 report, the Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, said at a cabinet meeting this Tuesday (30) that Israel must release the images “to explain to the world what we are fighting for”.
“While we show dead children in Gaza all day long, we hide the images of the horrors of October 7th,” said Economy Minister Nir Barkat, according to the Israeli broadcaster.
“Why don’t we use the weapons we have? There are thousands of horrible videos that the cabinet decided to hide. Instead of showing the world that Hamas is a monster, we are hiding the evidence that gives us justification
[para a ofensiva]”, argued Barkat.
On October 7, Hamas killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped around 250. After hostage exchanges with Palestinian prisoners, rescues and recovery of bodies in recent months, 133 hostages remain in Gaza. Israeli intelligence estimates that at least 30 of them are dead.
Protests against Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas have spread to US higher education institutions over the past two weeks, with hundreds of protesters arrested.
In the early hours of Tuesday, protesters invaded Hamilton Hall, one of the emblematic buildings of Columbia University, in New York.
