Mexico City.- The next federal government will have an Infrastructure Committee that will have the objective of directing the infrastructure works that the country requires.
The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) will be in charge of the operation of this Committee, according to the draft that is in the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (Conamer).
Ricardo Trejo, director of the consulting firm Forecastim, said that the infrastructure policy during this administration was imposed by the President and focused on the projects that were priorities for Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“In previous six-year terms, although there was no Committee as such, public policy was exercised from the Communications Secretariat, and there were meetings with specialists and undersecretaries to formulate the different projects.
“The fact that the guidelines are in Conamer means that they are resuming regulatory improvement to generate a necessary public policy focused on the country’s infrastructure needs,” he added.
Miguel López Fiesco, a transportation specialist, said that this Administration focused on the construction of the AIFA, the Mayan Train, and Dos Bocas, and this led to the neglect of road maintenance and port improvements.
“There was no new Infrastructure Program beyond what the President proposed,” he said.
Fiesco said he hoped that the Committee would lead to better monitoring and development of the works.
