Genivaldo de Jesus Santos suffocated in a car during an approach in Umbaúba (SE)
The CHR (Human Rights Commission) of the Federal Senate approved this Wednesday (June 1, 2022) the senator’s request Humberto Costa (PT-PE) to investigate the circumstances of the death of Genivaldo de Jesus Santos, suffocated inside a vehicle during an approach in Umbaúba (SE).
In the application, the senator assesses the police action in question as “extremely violent, utterly inhumane and disproportionate”. Here’s the intact (323 KB).
The beginning of the follow-up of the investigations of the case by the CDH begins on June 13, when the senators will go to the headquarters of the Federal Police, the Federal Public Ministry, the Federal Highway Police and the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) in Sergipe.
On June 14, congressmen will be in Umbaúba to find Genivaldo’s family.
According to Humberto Costa, the police approach to the case shows a “blatant disrespect” to the Federal Constitution, regarding the rights of citizens and the right to life.
“The images of the cruelty committed by those agents show us that the actions taken by them do not correspond to the legal provisions that regulate the use of force by public security agents; those absurd images show us an approach loaded with cruelty, which takes us into a dark past.”says the document.
The senator is the author of a PL (Project of Law) that mentions a permanent and provisional pension, in the amount of a minimum wage, to Genivaldo’s wife and minor child. The measure also proposes the payment of compensation of R$ 1 million by the Brazilian State to the victim’s family.
already signed the urgent request for voting on the project, 1 third of senators. 54 signatures are required, equivalent to 2-thirds of the senators.

This obstruction can occur through several factors and, at this first moment, it was not possible to establish the immediate cause of asphyxia, nor how it occurred.” behold intact of the note (31KB).
The Human Rights arm in South America of the UN (United Nations) charged on Friday (27.May) an investigation “swift and complete”.
