São Paulo, 16 – The Secretary of Agriculture of Rio Grande do Sul should allocate R$ 275.9 million to rural producers to minimize and prevent the effects of the drought, which this year was one of the most severe. According to a note from the ministry, the funds come from the program Advance in Agriculture and Rural Development and mainly provide for the construction of micro-dams in the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul.
The secretariat added that it has concentrated efforts to speed up the processing of the program and benefit rural producers.
The amount is double what was invested by the State in the sector in the last ten years.
“We are sure that our rural communities will be able to better prepare themselves to face new cycles of lack of rain”, affirmed, in the note, the Secretary of Agriculture, Silvana Covatti.
Thus, a task force of the Secretary of Agriculture was created. The measure aims to accelerate the process of signing agreements between the ministry and municipalities for the transfer of resources that will enable the excavation of 6,025 micro-dams.
“Still this month these agreements will be signed, guaranteeing the transfer of the amount corresponding to the excavation of, on average, 10 microdams per municipality”, said the ministry.
