On the occasion of the presentation to the press, the development studio Cyan Worlds revealed the Riven official release date: June 25, 2024. As you can see, it’s really very close and soon we will be able to play the final version of this highly anticipated adventure.
At the same time, it was announced thearrival of the official demo. It will be published on the occasion of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which will be held between June 10th and 17th, therefore a few days before the actual launch.
The demo will be the same on which we based our test. Riven is currently only announced for PC and Quest, Meta’s VR headset.
Use your brain
Riven is the official sequel to Myst, the historic point-and-click adventure that profoundly marked the genre in the 90s, thanks to the way in which it exploited the new technologies introduced in those years, CD-ROMs above all. Riven tells of the rescue of Catherine, the wife of Atrus, one of the main characters of the series, in a journey full of pitfalls and puzzles to solve. The 3D remake takes the original with great fidelity, although changing some elements by virtue of the new technologies used, made possible by Unreal Engine 5.
The game however, it remains a pure adventure, which will require a great deal of effort on the part of the players to complete, with some puzzles that reflect the original ones and others that have been slightly modified, so as to give at the same time an experience that feels ancient, but which is still fresh for fans of the series. The difficulty level will therefore be the same, so much so that Riven will require, imagine, the use of your brain to finish.
