Formula 1 is ready to restart the engines this weekend, which will see the single-seaters engaged on the Texas track in Austin to compete in the United States Grand Prix. A test, the seventeenth of the 2021 World Championship, which will be an opportunity for several drivers to turn the page after the misstep of the last stage in Istanbul; among these there is also Daniel Ricciardo, which shows up on the Circuit of the Americas after a decidedly difficult and unsatisfactory Turkish GP.
In addition to the desire to be able to redeem himself, the Australian from McLaren will also experience the particular thrill of doing a few laps at the wheel of the 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, NASCAR brought to the track that season by his idol Dale Earnhardt. An extra session that will be granted to him by his team and by Zak Brown, who will thus keep his promise – that of driving the car of the late American only if Ricciardo managed to conquer at least one podium – made at the beginning of the year.
Regardless of this moment, the Austin stage will therefore be an opportunity for Ricciardo to erase the memory of the Turkish GP, which ended outside the points after the fourth place in Sochi and, above all, after the previous victory in Monza. On the eve of the United States GP, the number 3 of the Woking team commented on the approach to this weekend as follows: “I am happy to be able to return to the US after a year off – he has declared – the city of Austin is a special place known for barbecues and many other culinary delights. Not to mention the Circuit of the Americas, one of the most beautiful tracks on the calendar. We need to make up for the lack of participation last season, e we will work hard to get a good result. We took the time to analyze, understand and learn what happened in the last race. We are therefore ready to move forward to focus on the challenge that awaits us this weekend. I think some points on the track will be suitable for us, and we should therefore be in the running to get some points. Furthermore – concluded Ricciardo – this weekend he will see me driving Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Wrangler. He is a hero to me, and driving his car will be a surreal moment and a dream come true. A big thank you to Zak for keeping this promise and making this all come true. I can not wait”.
