The meaning of PS5 Pro is to have greater hardware potential to be able to run the you play betterbut this will be valid for both old and new PS5 titles for both those released on PS4since in addition to the Enhanced version that will be applied to next-generation games there will be a Game Boost mode that will also improve backwards compatibility titles.
As for current-gen games, PS5 Pro will introduce its own “Enhanced” standardjust like we saw in the PS4 era, with all new titles having to support the graphics settings planned for the new console, but which can also be applied to titles already released previously.
This is an initial list of games confirmed as Enhanced and compatible with the new PS5 Pro features, namely improved graphics through higher resolution, superior performance and upscaling through PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Resolution):
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
- Demon’s Souls
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- The Crew Motorfest
- The First Descendant
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
All of these games will carry the PS5 Pro Enhanced label, as will many others to come, in addition to the major titles already on the market, likely through later updates.
Backwards compatibility will also be improved.
The improvements aren’t limited to current-gen games, though, as PS5 Pro will be able to improve performance and graphics including titles released for PS4.
In these cases, there may be several improvements applicable to backwards compatible games.
Sony talks about improvements applied to “more than 8500 titles in backwards compatibility” and these will be possible through two planned features: the first is Game Boost, which can be applied to all PS4 and PS5 games and will be able to improve or stabilize performance through a system similar to the mode of the same name launched with PS4 Pro.
The second mode will be more selective: some titles will be able to support the “Enhanced Image Quality” feature, which will also improve the resolution of some PS4 titles, in addition to performance, but this will only be applied to selected games.
Today we saw the announcement of the PS5 Pro and learned that it will be digital-only, with an optical drive to be purchased separately.
