The historic center and other neighborhoods of Porto Alegre register since Friday (May 3, 2024) flooding caused by heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul. The international airport in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul was also flooded.
The river Guaíba, the main city in the city, reached the mark of 5.09 meters this Saturday morning (May 4). The flood is record. The mayor Sebastian Melo (MDB) asked residents to leave the area and look for government shelters. “We can lose material goods, life never comes back”he said.

In images posted on social media, it is possible to see an excerpt from the Avenida Castelo Branco in the Interior-Capital direction destroyed by the force of the water.
Drone videos taken by the Porto Alegre Public Security Secretariat show the historic center region completely flooded this Saturday (May 4). It is also possible to see residents traveling by boat through the streets of the neighborhood.
