The Civil Police of Minas Gerais reported this Monday (5) that it has already received reports of about 40 deaths of dogs in Brazil after eating snacks with suspected contamination.
According to the delegate, tutors should be aware of the appearance of symptoms in dogs after consuming the snacks: in case of convulsion, diarrhea, vomiting and prostration, it is important to look for the Danúbia Quadros police station, in a press release.
+ Ministry bans snack factory after death of dogs
There are reports of deaths in at least eight states, in addition to Minas Gerais and the Federal District: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Alagoas, Sergipe and Goiás.
The delegate advises that tutors be aware if dogs have seizures, diarrhea, vomiting and prostration – characteristics that, according to her, are the most common after eating the food.
Three snack brands are investigated for suspected contamination: Dental Care, Every Day and Petz Snack Oral Care. All are manufactured by the Bassar company.
Last Friday, the Civil Police reported that, in one of the snacks delivered to the police station by tutors of animals who fell ill or died, the presence of monoethylene glycol was identified.
The substance, which is toxic and can lead to kidney failure, had already been detected through a necropsy performed by the Veterinary School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) on one of the dead dogs.
Also on Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) determined the national recall of all batches of Bassar products and the ban on the factory, in Guarulhos (SP).
This Monday, the folder informed that it determined the inspection of the distribution establishments.
