Action aims to promote the revitalization of the port region; area will have parking bans and road closures
Rio City Hall set up a special traffic and security scheme for the implosion of a 19 meter high building on Avenida Francisco Bicalho, in the Leopoldina area, this Sunday (Apr 28, 2024). The building is part of the old Port Workers Club.
The location is one of the access points to the capital's bus station and the Rio-Niterói bridge, which connects Rio to cities in the metropolitan region and to the beaches of the Lagos Region.
The implosion is scheduled for 7am. The action aims to promote the revitalization of the port region. The special operation will involve 155 agents from various municipal bodies. O Operation center will intensify monitoring on the streets near the implosion area with cameras and the use of a drone.
A CET-Rio (Traffic Engineering Company) set up an operational scheme to isolate, on Saturday (27 April), the entire area of influence of the intervention, with a ban on parking and road closures in the area. The closures will be carried out on Avenida Francisco Bicalho.
Access to Novo Rio Bus Station will be via Equador Street or Avenida Brasil, a lane next to Into (National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics), from 7pm. A security perimeter of 150 meters was established by the Civil Defense around the implosion. The measure aims to guarantee the integrity of residents and drivers traveling in the region and minimize impacts on traffic.
This Sunday, the closures begin at 5:30 am, with release expected at 10 am. The following will remain closed:
- Avenida Francisco Bicalho, on the side lane, in the road direction and between the 1st needle for the central lane and Rua Comandante Garcia Pires;
- General Luís Mendes de Morais Street, towards Diná de Queirós Square; It is
- Diná de Queirós square, in the stretch between General Luís Mendes de Morais street and Francisco Bicalho avenue.
IMPLOSION SOUND WARNINGS
In total, there will be 5 sirens sounded by Civil Defense. The 1st of them, at 5:30 am, determines the blocking of the roads. The 2nd, estimated at 6:50 am, indicates the final inspection of the area. The 3rd ring, at 6:55 am, is the “attention touch”. The implosion occurs at 7 am, before that, the 4th siren will sound. Finally, at 7:15 am, the last ring represents the beginning of the release of the area after checking by technicians and engineers.
CLEANING
A Comlurb (Companhia Municipal de Limpeza Urbana) prepared a special cleaning operation, just after 7am, minutes after the implosion. The company will have 60 street cleaners, who will carry out emergency cleaning in the area.
Teams will remove debris, dirt and dust resulting from the implosion. Large sweepers, two mechanical shovels, dump trucks and water tanks will be used to wash the tracks.
